Review and process payroll

Last updated July 23, 2026

Payroll Management brings staff compensation, approved time, commissions, and adjustments into one period review. Use it to resolve differences before processing and to preserve a clear record of the final totals.

Before you begin

Complete time review and approvals for the pay period. Confirm staff compensation settings and business unit assignments are current. Only authorized payroll staff should process a period.

Open and filter Payroll

Go to Payroll in the main navigation.

  1. Choose the pay period.
  2. Use the available staff, business unit, type, or status filters.
  3. Review the period totals shown in the summary.
  4. Look for staff cards or rows with warnings, missing time, or unapproved entries.
  5. Click Refresh when source information changed after the page was opened.

Resolve warnings and unapproved time before using Process Payroll.

Review one staff member

  1. Open the staff member's payroll details.
  2. Review regular, overtime, commission, and other compensation shown.
  3. Open the time review section.
  4. Compare total hours with Time Tracking and job-level hours.
  5. Review included jobs, invoices, commissions, or other earning details when shown.
  6. Confirm deductions and adjustments.
  7. Resolve any exception before returning to the period summary.

Add an adjustment

  1. Open the staff member's actions.
  2. Choose the adjustment option.
  3. Select the adjustment type.
  4. Enter the amount or hours.
  5. Add the effective date and a useful description.
  6. Save the adjustment.
  7. Review the staff and period totals again.

Use a clear adjustment description so the reason remains understandable during later review.

Process payroll

  1. Confirm the correct pay period is selected.
  2. Review every warning and incomplete status.
  3. Confirm time is approved.
  4. Check the staff count and period totals.
  5. Click Process Payroll.
  6. Review the confirmation summary.
  7. Confirm processing.
  8. Wait for the completion message, then reopen the period to verify its processed status.

Processing should be the final action after review. If your company exports or enters totals in another payroll service, follow that approved handoff after Nexus shows the period as processed.

What happens next

The processed period is retained for future payroll and reporting review. Use Reporting for labor and performance analysis, and keep corrections tied to the next approved company process.

Troubleshooting

Process Payroll is disabled

Check for unapproved time, unresolved warnings, missing staff compensation settings, or a period that is not eligible. Your role must also include payroll processing access.

A staff total looks wrong

Open the person's time review, earnings, commissions, and adjustments. Correct the source item, refresh Payroll, and compare the total again before processing.

A staff member is missing from the period

Clear filters and confirm the person was active and eligible during the selected dates. Review their staff profile and payroll settings.
