Create and manage job types
Job types keep booking consistent by giving common work a name, duration, default price, business-unit assignment, and related services.

Before you begin
Decide:
- the customer-friendly name for the work;
- its category, usual duration, and starting price;
- which business units perform the work;
- which custom questions should appear when it is booked; and
- which services or materials should be connected to it.
Open Job Types
Go to Settings → Core Data → Job Types.

Use search and filters to review an existing job type before creating a similar one.
Use Search job types... to find a job type by name. Narrow the list with All Job Types, Active Only, Inactive Only, or the category filter.
Create a job type
- Click Add Job Type.
- On Basic Information, enter the required Job Type Name.
- Choose a Category.
- Enter the Estimated Duration (minutes).
- Enter the Default Price.
- Add a Description, Color, and Tags when they help the team recognize or organize the work. Press Enter after each tag.

Complete Basic Information first, then use the other tabs to control where the job type appears and what is connected to it.
The duration and price are starting values. They help the booking team work faster and can be adjusted on the job when needed.
Choose where the job type is available
Open Business Unit Associations, then select every business unit that performs this type of work.
This matters during booking: Job Type becomes available after a business unit is selected, and Nexus shows the job types connected to that unit.
Add job-specific questions
Open Custom Fields and select the fields that should appear when someone books this job type.
Use custom fields for information the office or technician needs every time, such as equipment age, access instructions, or the reason for the visit.
Connect services and items
Open Linked Services and expand the section you need:
- Services
- Materials
- Equipment
- Memberships
- Discounts
Search for an item, then use its add or remove action. Set the usual quantity for materials and equipment when applicable.
Linked items give the team a consistent starting point. Review the actual scope and price before presenting anything to the customer.
Set availability and save
At the bottom of the window:
- Turn on Require inventory materials for this job type when the job should include tracked materials.
- Leave Active Job Type on when staff should be able to select it.
Click Create Job Type.
What happens next
The new job type appears in the Job Types list. When a staff member books a job for an associated business unit, the new job type appears in the Job Type list with its configured defaults.
Edit or deactivate a job type
- Find the job type.
- Click its pencil action.
- Update the settings.
- To stop new use of the job type, turn off Active Job Type.
- Click Update Job Type.
Deactivating a job type keeps it out of new-job choices without removing its name from existing work.
Use the trash action only when the job type should be permanently removed. Review the confirmation carefully before continuing.
Troubleshooting
The job type does not appear on New Job
Confirm Active Job Type is on and the selected business unit is checked under Business Unit Associations.
A custom question does not appear
Edit the job type and confirm the field is selected under Custom Fields. Then confirm the same job type is selected on the job.
A linked service or item is missing
Open Linked Services, expand the correct section, and search by the item's name. Confirm the item itself is active.
