Before you begin

Decide what the unit represents and which job types it performs. Have its customer-facing name and email address ready.

Open Business Units

  1. Click Settings.
  2. Open Core Data.
  3. Click Business Units.

The Business Units settings page showing totals, search and status filters, and active units.

Search and status filters help you find a unit before you edit it or review its job-type connections.

Create a business unit

  1. Click Add Business Unit.
  2. On Basic Information, enter the Business Unit Name.
  3. Enter the Email Address customers and documents should use.
  4. Add the official business name, phone number, trade, and division when they differ from the rest of the company.
  5. Choose a default warehouse when inventory for this unit should begin there.
  6. Enter the default tax rate when the unit needs one.
  7. Confirm the currency.

The Create Business Unit dialog on the Basic Information tab.

The required name and email identify the unit throughout Nexus. The remaining fields provide defaults for the work assigned to it.

Associate job types

  1. Open Associated Job Types.
  2. Select each type of work this unit performs.
  3. Clear any job type that should not be available for the unit.

These connections control which job types appear after the unit is selected on a new job.

Review branding and documents

Open Branding & Documents to review the identity and document choices for this unit. Use unit-specific branding only when customers should see something different from the main company profile.

Save the business unit

  1. Leave Active Business Unit on if the team is ready to use it.
  2. Review all three tabs.
  3. Click Create Business Unit.

The new unit appears in the table and becomes available on jobs and other pages that use business units.

Find or update a unit

  1. Enter the name in Search business units....
  2. Use the status filter to include inactive units when needed.
  3. Open the row's action menu.
  4. Choose the available edit action.
  5. Update the information and save.

Troubleshooting

A job type is missing from a new job

Open the business unit and confirm that job type is selected under Associated Job Types. Also confirm the job type is active.

A unit is missing from a job

Change the status filter to include inactive units. If the unit is inactive, edit it and turn Active Business Unit on.

The wrong contact information appears on a document

Review the unit's basic information and Branding & Documents choices, then confirm the correct business unit is selected on the job.
