Optimize routes and capacity
Last updated July 23, 2026
Route optimization reviews the selected day’s active technicians and assigned work. Use it after appointment commitments, shifts, durations, addresses, and assignments are dependable.
Common uses
- Review available capacity before adding or moving work.
- Improve route order after the day’s fixed commitments are entered.
Before you begin
Confirm the date, business unit, staff shifts, service addresses, arrival windows, expected durations, and fixed customer commitments. Optimization can change route order or placement, so use it only when the day is ready for review.
Open Dispatch and review capacity
- Open Operations → Dispatch → List.
- Select Day and choose the date.
- Select the business unit.
- Review each technician’s assigned work and available capacity.
- Resolve missing shifts, durations, or assignments first.
Capacity is most useful when shifts and appointment durations are current.
Apply route optimization
- Select Optimize.
- Wait while the route review runs.
- Review the updated order or placement.
- Open Map and select each affected technician.
- Use View Route to verify geography and customer commitments.
- Correct any appointment that must remain at a fixed time.
Optimization helps balance the plan, but the dispatcher remains responsible for confirming customer and technician constraints.
Control job participation
From a job’s Quick Actions, use Auto Dispatch to control whether its appointment is included in automated route optimization. Turn it off for work that must keep a manually controlled placement.
Use the Dispatch List Settings control to review job buffer preferences when travel or preparation time should be left between appointments.
What happens next
Applied changes appear in Board, List, Map, and the connected job appointments. Review the final day before communicating schedule changes.
Troubleshooting
Optimize reports no active technicians
Confirm active technicians have shifts on the selected date and match the business-unit filter.
A job was not included
Open the job and confirm Auto Dispatch is enabled, the appointment is assigned, and its date matches the optimization date.
The optimized order breaks a customer promise
Move or edit the affected appointment to restore the promised arrival window, then verify the route again.
