Create an estimate from a job

Last updated July 23, 2026

Create an estimate from a job when the customer needs proposed scope and pricing before additional work is approved.

Common uses

  • Prepare an add-on proposal connected to existing work.
  • Start from a saved template or create a blank estimate.

Before you begin

Open the correct job and have a clear estimate name and summary ready. Review the customer and service location before creating the estimate.

Open the job and start the estimate

  1. Open Operations → Jobs.
  2. Select the Job ID.
  3. In Quick Actions, select Create Estimate.
  4. If prompted, choose Use Template or Create From Scratch.

Starting from the job keeps the new estimate connected to the correct customer, location, and work record.

Choose a template or blank estimate

For a template:

  1. Search for the template or option name.
  2. Expand the template to review its options.
  3. Select the intended template.

For a blank estimate:

  1. Enter Estimate Name.
  2. Enter Summary (Optional) when the proposal needs context.
  3. Select Create Estimate.

A useful name makes the proposal easy to recognize on the job and customer record.

Review the new estimate

Confirm the customer, location, scope, options, line items, quantities, prices, discounts, tax, attachments, and customer-facing notes before sending it.

What happens next

The estimate opens for editing and appears on the job’s Estimates tab. When the customer accepts the proposal, continue with the appropriate job and billing workflow.

Troubleshooting

Create Estimate is unavailable

Confirm the job finished loading and your role can create estimates.

A template does not appear

Search by template and option names. Choose Create From Scratch if the proposal does not require a saved template.

The blank estimate will not create

Enter an Estimate Name, check for highlighted required information, and try again.
