Change a job's job type
Last updated July 23, 2026
Update the job type when work was booked under the wrong service or the scope changed. The job type helps the office and field teams understand what work is expected.
Common uses
- Correct the service classification after booking.
- Reflect a changed scope while retaining the existing job.
Before you begin
Confirm the correct service and business unit. A job type must be available to the selected Business Unit.
Open the job header
- Open Operations → Jobs.
- Select the job’s Job ID.
- Select the pencil in the job header.
- Review the current Business Unit before changing Job Type.
The current classification appears near the top of the job workspace.
Select the correct job type
- Open Job Type.
- Select the type that best describes the work.
- If it is missing, review Business Unit first.
- Review Marketing Campaign and Priority.
- Select Save.
- Update Job Summary or appointment instructions if the scope also changed.
Changing the type does not rewrite the existing summary or instructions, so update those separately when needed.
What happens next
The new job type appears in the header and in filtered Jobs and Dispatch views. Existing appointments and billing records stay connected.
Troubleshooting
The job type is not listed
Confirm the right business unit is selected. If it is still missing, ask a manager to verify the type is active and attached to that unit in Job Types.
The business unit also needs to change
Select the business unit first, then choose from the refreshed job type list before saving.
The old scope is still visible
Update the Job Summary or Special Instructions; those notes are not automatically replaced by a job type change.
